How we charge

Fair and transparent

Not many financial advisers publish their fees on their websites. We do, because we believe in being transparent about how we charge for the work we do.

We also completely believe in the value we provide to our clients. In fact, recent research published by the International Longevity Centre UK (ILC) shows that those who receive professional financial advice boost their wealth by an average of £47,706*.

Our clients have also told us how much they appreciate our advice and guidance – just take a look at their testimonials below.

We can offer a planning only service, without the requirement to take ongoing advice. However, we can provide the best value to those clients who choose to work with us over the long term.

* ILC Report: What it’s worth – Revisiting the value of financial advice

Below are details of how we charge for each step of your journey with us:

1. Discover

The first step is to find out how your journey might look! We’ll discuss your financial objectives and goals, uncovering your priorities and timelines for achieving them. Where we are considering your investment needs, we’ll discuss your attitude and experience of investing, as well as the level of risk you can afford to take.

Our charges

There is no charge to you for this step of your journey. All of the time we invest at the ‘discover’ stage is entirely at our expense.

2. Research & advice

Armed with the information we have from the ‘discover’ stage, we will create a plan which aims to achieve your financial goals. We’ll investigate which products will be most suitable for your needs. At this point, we will agree on the initial and ongoing fees required to deliver your plan.

Our charges

Option 1: A percentage of the amount you invest. To be agreed before any work is undertaken. This will typically be 1% of the investment amount. The maximum we would charge as a percentage for Step 2 and Step 3 would be 2% combined.

Option 2: Per hour. We will provide you with a bespoke estimate of the time required before we commence any work and will not charge for any further work unless agreed with you. Typically, the charge is £200 per hour. The time taken to undertake the work will depend on the complexity of the matter. For instance, a single ISA recommendation will typically take 3 hours and an IHT solution involving several recommendations will typically take 15 hours.

Option 3: Fixed charge. We will confirm the fee amount once we have scoped the task and amount of work due.

3. Implementation

We recommend and implement your strategy after explaining it to you. We will assist in the completion of any relevant paperwork, ensuring the documentation is processed as quickly and efficiently as possible.

4. Ongoing service

We build long-lasting trusted business relationships with all of our clients. Whilst optional, we recommend that you continue to work with us to review your investment and pension planning on a regular basis, to ensure that they match your changing goals and objectives.

Our charges

"I retired recently from many years working for HM Government, and thought long about the most prudent way to invest money from my pension lump sum. My attitude to risk has always erred on the side of caution, driven in no small part by horror stories of scams and the gullibility of others. My partner has invested in ISAs and share portfolios under guidance from Mark Bastable of Templegate, and so I met with Mark to explore options. I found Mark to be very personable, patient and professional in his approach to understand my concerns, Mark took the time to clarify aspects of my investment that were unclear to me. I decided to act similarly to my partner and invested in an ISA and a share portfolio; its early days yet but I look forward to meeting with Mark in future to review positive progress."

"I contacted Mark because I needed Pension advice. After meeting with me and understanding my attitude to Risk Mark advised me on investing my 'Pension Pot'. The following year my attitude to risk had changed, I'm a bit closer to retirement age. Mark met with me and talked through the new investment plan he was advising me to move to. He took the time to talk through the potential benefits and risks of each part of the new plan. Mark also advised me of my options for when I decide to use my Pension savings. Some options I wasn't previously aware of. During our meetings I haven't felt rushed. I've felt comfortable asking questions that I felt would be common knowledge and that I should already know the answers to."

"Mark Bastable of Templegate has advised me on financial matters since 2004, initially for pension related issues and then savings. The pension advice has proved to be very advantageous to me and the savings have achieved the goals that I requested. I continue to use this service because I feel I can trust that Mark will always offer advice that is in my best interests. "

"Mark Bastable has been offering regular general financial advice to my husband and myself for about 12 years. He has guided our investment bonds; ISAs, savings accounts and general financial well-being, including advice on inheritance tax which generated a substantial amount of unexpected additional inheritance! We have found Mark’s advice to be clear ( we are not financial experts), well evidenced and honest. Mark is personable, approachable and always professional; we have never yet had a reason to doubt the integrity of his advice. "
