Long-term care planning

Long-term care planning

Long–term care covers a variety of services which help people with a chronic illness or disability, who cannot care for themselves for long periods. For those who cannot care for themselves at home, residential care will need to be considered. According to Age UK, costs average around £600 a week for a care home place and more than £800 a week for a place in a nursing home. For many, this is a significant amount of money, and there is no way of knowing how long you will need to pay it. You’re not obliged to get professional financial planning advice when choosing how to finance your long-term care. But in most cases, it’s crucial to do so as there are numerous options, including:

  • Pre-funded insurance
  • Immediate needs care plan
  • Care bonds
  • Equity release
  • Existing sources of income
  • Let property
  • Deferred care plans

We will recommend the best way to fund long-term care that is compatible with you and your family’s priorities. We can help with other areas such as finding professionals who can write your will, or set up a Power of Attorney. "Mark has been my adviser for 12 years now. He has continued to give good advice which is pertinent to my situation even though it has not been beneficial to him. I wish GPs and other professionals would be so willing to give advice! "

"Mark has been my financial adviser for over 20 years. I wanted to start thinking about my long-term future when I had children. Mark listened to what we wanted to achieve, discussed and explained our options and supported us to implement our choices. Over the long term, we are in a much better place financially."

"Due to poor health, I decided to retire at 58 and asked Mark to develop my retirement plan. Mark provided a number of options for my retirement, and after discussing these with Mark we decided on and implemented the preferred course of action. "

"I was looking for pensions advice and Mark was recommended to me by a friend. His advice was clear and informative; I have very little understanding of financial jargon and he was very patient and answered all my questions. He kept me informed of progress along the way and explained the best way to manage my pensions; which ones to leave as is, and which ones to transfer to a better scheme. I will certainly use him for any further financial advice in the future."
